Orangutans are native to Borneo and Sumatra and must learn a variety of skills as they grow up. In this video, you'll see seven behaviors that researchers have observed in the wild: from pushing over dead trees to make noise as part of a dominance display, to building umbrellas to shelter from the rain. Orangutans learn most of these behaviors before reaching adolescence, around age 12. Some of the behaviors are ubiquitous between Borneo and Sumatra. Others occur only in certain areas, suggesting there could be regional cultures.
