WARNING about using E15 gasoline in your RV, Cars, Trucks, ATV's & Generators that RVer's use daily.

With high gas prices everywhere now, when you go to fill up at a gas station BUYER BEWARE. Getting better MPG is important with today's prices and switching over to E15 is NOT the way to accomplish that or save money.

You see the ethanol sticker right on the pump every time we get gas. Today, nearly all gasoline pumped at gas stations across the country is a mixture of 90% gasoline and 10% ethanol otherwise known as E10.

E15 gasoline is 85% gasoline and 15% Ethanol. 5% more Ethanol than what you & I get at the pump today.

E15 is shorthand for gasoline blended with 15% Ethanol which is a fairly corrosive material which can cause damage to rubber parts and other critical engine parts over time. Ethanol also attracts and bonds with water from the air, and that water can separate inside the tank due to phase separation. If your vehicle sits for long periods between use, the moisture settles to the bottom of the tank and can clog—intank pumps—and filters. Damage can also happen in fuel lines, injectors, seals, gaskets, and valve seats as well as carburetors. The main issue with respect to E15 in many cases is whether or not the car will be covered under warranty from damage caused by using E15. Anybody that owns a gas power vehicle should read the manual and see if it can tolerate E15 gas. Most won't other than Flex fuel vehicles.

The effects of ethanol are not limited to just gasoline powered RV’s, cars, motorcycles and trucks. It can also damage occasional or seasonal items such as boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, generators and lawn equipment. As in alcohol, ethanol attracts and absorbs water. When water is introduced into a vehicle’s fuel system it causes rust and corrosion to form on the metal surfaces of the fuel tank and fuel lines. Over time, tiny bits and pieces of corrosion break away from surfaces, and cause clogging of fuel injectors/carburetors, resulting in reduced performance, hard starts, and possible engine problems.

So in summary, E15 can corrode many of the plastics, metals, and rubber components used in internalcombustion engines and their fuel systems. Hence, using fuel with a higher concentration of ethanol than the manufacturer recommends may damage your vehicle.

In the RV community, we have gas motorhomes, gas powered trucks, gas generators THAT HAVE CARBURETORS motorcycles and other off road vehicles.

The bottom line is…just don’t use E15. Your introducing a fuel that may cost less at the pump but create long term damage to the engine and shorten the life of the vehicle or equipment it’s put in.

The emergency waiver will allow E15 to be made and sold in the summer months across the country. That will put a further strain on corn supplies, which affects growers, ranchers that need grain for their livestock and all these things COMBINED will impact already high food prices.
