VN24 01042024 (D/M/Y) Dortmund / Germany On Monday afternoon, an 89yearold man drove his car backwards down a slope into a pond. The driver and the female passenger suffered minor injuries. According to initial investigations, the man drove his car forwards into a garage at around 3:10 pm. There he collided with a shelf. He then put the car into reverse and pressed the gas pedal. He then reversed down a slope at high speed, broke through a fence and came to rest on the left side of the vehicle three meters below in a pond. A 44yearold local resident who heard the accident immediately rushed to help. He righted the car, smashed the passenger side window and freed the 86yearold passenger. The fire department rescued the driver with the help of a turntable ladder. Ambulances took the two occupants to hospital. The Golf car was then lifted out of the pond using a salvage company's crane. The fire department's environmental service dealt with the spillage in the pond.
