12 day trip with two inflatable kayaks in Albania to paddle Europe's last free wild river the Vjosa in April 2019. As mentioned in the Video the Vjosa (and many other beautiful rivers on the Balkan) are highly threatend by hydropower plants. Organisations like Riverwatch (https://riverwatch.eu/en/balkanrivers..., EuroNatur (https://www.euronatur.org/en/whatwe...) and others fight for free rivers on the Balkan. Just take a look if you got curious. You can also help to protect these rivers if you just go there and paddle and therefore show locals that ecotourism is also an option. But you don't need to spend money to help to protect these rivers. Just talk to people and tell them about the beautiful nature and how hydropower would destroy that. Many of those hydropower plants are not conform with EU law and it's really questionable to build more hydropower plants in Albania given that they already produce their whole electricity just from hydropower. It's even dangerous to just rely on a single energy source. It is expected that the water amount on the Balkan will decrease over the next decades due to clima change and therefore hydropower plants will be much less efficient. For Albania it would be better to invest in other renewable energy sources like solar power. I really hope that we can save the Vjosa and other great rivers on the Balkan for future generations!
