Explore the culture of Japanese shrine visits with me as I go on my firstever Hatsumōde (初詣) the first shrine visit of the new year, to Meiji Shrine in Tokyo.
I learned how to wash my hands at the Temizuya (water basin area), how to pray (bowing, clapping), and all of the other things to do when visiting a shrine such as buying good luck charms and writing on the ema (wooden plaque for wishmaking).
