DirtFarmerJay interviews his friend Bill ("The Worm Wrangler Extraordinaire") and gets the lowdown on how to approach vermiculture. Bill began raising Georgia Red Wrigglers as a path to improving his soil in his yardscape and garden plot. He has enjoyed strong results and learned a lot along the way in the 3 years he has been doing this.

In this episode, Bill gives you the "inside scoop" on economical ways to set up worm bins, where to situate them, temperature ranges, what is needed for bedding and moisture, and what to feed the worms. He goes into further detail about maintaining the worms, multiplying them, separating worms from the castings, collecting the eggs, and starting new colonies of worms either in additional bins or directly in the garden space.

Bill says that you can't overuse the castings/worm compost because it is not a fertilizer it is a soil amendment, so you can add all that you want and can!

In future editions, Bill will get into more detail about collecting the eggs and raising more worms. Bill started with 2 pounds of worms that have grown into 8 colonies in containers and several more directly in his raised garden beds. Stay tuned!
