In this video we discuss how VantageScore 3.0 and FICO Score 8 (and others) compare. For instance, VantageScore was created by the three major credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax). FICO, on the other hand, is a score created by the Fair Isaac Corporation. VantageScore 3.0 uses essentially the same credit model for data from TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax, while FICO has a slightly different model for each credit agency. Obviously, not much of that matters to consumers, but it’s fun to know. As for what may impact consumers, you’ll notice that it’s easier to get a credit score with VantageScore (for several technical reasons) and it might be slightly more forgiving with certain issues. The bottom line is that both scores seek to estimate your creditworthiness, although FICO is still the most widely used by lenders. Services such as CreditWise (from Capital One), Credit Journey (from Chase), and Credit Karma uses Vantage Score, at least as of early 2021. Bank of America, Citi, and Discover all report your FICO score within their mobile apps/online. To be clear, this is the score they show you if you have one of their credit cards—we are not saying that these are the scores they factor in to estimate your creditworthiness. That information is not publicly available. VantageScore vs FICO Credit Score Ranges (EXPLAINED)
