AHealthcareZ - Healthcare Finance Explained

ValueBased Care Was First Put Into Place Almost 40 Years Ago by Medicare with Its Prospective Payment System.

The Prospective Payment System Changed Medicare Payment for Hospital Inpatient Services from 'CostPlus' for the Hospital Services to a Fix Amount Per Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) Regardless of the Length of Stay.

The Result:
Length of Say Decreased 17%
Admits/Discharges Decreased by 3.5%
Readmissions Remained Unchanged
30 Day Post Admission Mortality Increased by 0.6 Percentage Points
Medicare Inflation Decreased from 10.1% Per Year to 5.7% Per Year.
