Using the Bump-y Method During the Walk

Follow
Martin McKenna

During today's episode of Dreadlock Dog TV you'll see the magnificent dog Linus learn his first lesson in not pulling on the leash. He's a very big, strong, teenage dog full of hormones who gets surges of energy on the walk and can pull very badly on the leash. Win your points up on the verandah, especially going down the stairs then you can use the bumpy method to stop a big, strong dog who is very determined to pull ahead. With some dogs this can sort out the problem in a few minutes... with other dogs this can take a few weeks especially if that dog has been winning points for months or years or is a naturally pushy dog. Note how I keep taking control of the situation by pretending to look or sniff things. Don't let the dog set the pace at ay time. Whatever he wants to do, turn it around so you become in control of the situation. More techniques coming soon!
