US Airways flight 1549 was a schedule flight from LaGuardia Airport, New York to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte, North Carolina operated by an Airbus A320214 registered as N106US. On january 15, 2009, climbing at 2,818 feet, the Airbus strock a flock of Canada geese about 4,5 miles northwest of LaGuardia and northeast of George Washington Bridge at 3:27:11 p.m. Just after the strock the plane lost thrust in both CFM565B4/P turbofan engines, 57yearold captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger took the control of the falling aircraft while the 49yearold first officer Jeffrey Skiles worked the checklist for engine restart, the engines suffered serious damaged and shut down completely despite crew's several attempts to restart them so, they were forced to make a ditching in Hudson River as it was impossible land in Teterboro Airport, New Jersey or any alternative airport. The plane only continued ascending during 19 seconds and after started a glade descent accelerating to 390 km/h (210 knots), captain Sullenberger sent a mayday call to LaGuardia answered "unable" and "We can't do it ... We're gonna be in the Hudson" before losing radar contact. In the descent, the aircraft passed less than 270 m above the GWB, the last words were "Brace for impact" through the speaker system. At 3:31 p.m the A320 made an unpowered ditching at 230 km/h (125 knots) into the middle of the North river section, moments after, the evacuation started with various passengers with panic.
Finally, all 155 people on board were rescued by nearby boats, ferrys and the Coast Guard with a air temperature of (7°C). There were few passenger and a flight attendant with serious injures and the crew were awarded the Master's Medal of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators due to their heroic achievement.
