We stop at the Air Force Museum at March AFB California. The airfield was established in 1918 long before there was an airforce in the states. It was mostly a pilot training facility through the end of the Second World War. Bob Hope’s first USO show was held at March Field in 1941. They were testing the stage he would go on to use many times.
Since the war, the field has hosted a diverse selection of military service branches. The field is over 2000 acres so it has room for everybody. Activities have ranged from fighters to fuel tankers, bombers to autonomous predator aircraft, and everything in between. They host an awesome airshow every April if you happen to be in SoCal in the spring.
The museum is a non profit created in 1996. They now have over 100 aircraft including SR71A serial #6117975 with 2854 hours flown. Thankyou to all the volunteers that work at the museum.
Exploring and History get On The Road with Norm.
We keep travelling around and seeing things.
We also like history, aviation museums, and things with engines.
Come along for the ride.
