UPGRADING a Winter RV Site. What’s Involved? Wintering tips🔧

Today I’m going to discuss the upgrades & improvements we made to our RV winter site, what’s involved, how we take care of our RV in the winter and other winter tips. As RV full timers we spend our winters in RGV—Rio Grande Valley—& wanted to make it nicer. Our RV site makes it real nice to not have to move every couple of weeks from park to park & it gives us a chance to do all our maintenance & get ready for the next traveling season. However, we still exercise our coach regularly during the winter.

Those that follow our channel know we purchased our own RV site last year in RGV (Rio Grande Valley). We bought it, it’s deeded & it’s ours. If your interested in the process of buying your own RV lot & all what’s involved, I did a complete video on that last year titled “Buying your own RV site. Should you? What’s involved?
   • Buying your own RV site. Should you? ...

We looked at a ton of RV properties, but there were several things that we’re important to us and we also wanted to make some improvements. Not all RV parks allow you to improve your property. Every RV park or community is different. But one of the things for certain we wanted to do was the ability to build an awning over our RV site. Some RV parks or winter RV communities don’t allow you to do that. The RV community we bought into does. But you have to run written plans and drawings by the park official to get your plans approved and it’s a good thing that step is there. It prevents anybody putting up something that’s junky, unsafe or just looks like terrible. Having a set of minimum standards is a good thing to not keep a nice appearance of the park, but help keep property values up. Once you have your plans approved by the RV park, you take that approval paperwork to the city and get a city building permit.

GOING TO MEXICO
We also go to Progresso, Mexico every winter to get our dental work done. We went there 6 times this year. It’s very safe to go there. It’s just south of Weslaco, TX. From our RV site, it takes about 45 minutes to drive there. We’re going to show you what that’s like also.

REGULAR EXERCISING THE MOTORHOME DURING THE WINTER
It’s so easy to get settled in for the winter when you have a permanent RV site like this. But you know how I am about exercising your coach.
Starting and running your coach in place is NOT exercising it. You have to get it out the road and drive it. It’s important to heat up the tires, run the entire drive trail, bearings, coolant system, everything gets up to temp and gets exercised. So that’s what we do about every 6 weeks
It’s really not that big of a deal. You just unhook everything, set it off to the side go exercise it, come back and hook everything back up.

Having a winter RV site is very handy to have, to do all my annual maintenance stuff, to get ready for the next traveling year and just get some rest without always on the move. We love having our own winter RV site.

DISCLAIMER:
We are in no way experts or professional mechanics. But being a journeyman millwright for years & being EX Military, has proven to be very helpful in my lifetime learning how to care for & maintain all sorts of machinery & equipment like: helicopters, airplanes, tanks, motorcycles & many types of other vehicles. That, along with 18 months preparing & upgrading our RV before we went full time, & now traveling for several years has gained us a lot of knowledge. Regardless of what we recommend, consult a professional if you're unsure about working on your RV. Work you perform or products you purchase based on any information we provide is at your own risk.
