The United States now has a new volcanic eruption. On March 27th, late in the evening, an unexpected explosion occurred on a populated volcanic island. What is known as a phreatic eruption had occurred on an Aleutian island known as Atka. However, whether it is the Atka or Korovin volcanoes which technically erupted is left up to debate depending on which volcano classification scheme you use.
