More accurately, one fluffy wolfdog and one defluffing wolfdog. Doug is fluff forever, whereas Indigo is blowing her coat.
I originally started filming this to explain to my boss why it takes me 6 lint roller sheets before I'm presentable each morning, but it's just too cute not to share.
Indigo is currently blowing her coat, which is why she looks like a hot mess. Wolves and many other northern breed dogs will blow their coats at least once a year. When this occurs, their undercoat will come out in huge clumps, leaving behind the thin guard hairs. You can really clearly see the difference in coat length between a winter and summer coat during this time. Many wolves and wolfdogs will even clock in up to 5 lbs lighter after fully blowing their coats. It is enormously satisfying to pluck those pieces of fur out, and my biggest challenge during this time is practicing self restraint so I don't annoy them too much.
In comparison, Doug's coat is very doggy. His long fur is not a trait found in wolves, and while he will shed more in warm weather, he seems to shed year round.
