Tumour lysis syndrome: causes diagnosis and management

Follow
Internal Medicine

Tumour lysis syndrome is caused due to a constellation of metabolic abnormalities that occur due to cell lysis. It commonly occurs in patients with leukaemia or rapid lymphoproliferative neoplasms who have received chemotherapy. TLS may also occur spontaneously. The metabolic abnormalities include hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia and hyperuricemia. Management of tumour lysis includes aggressive hydration and management of above mentioned electrolyte disturbances.
