Today I am traveling under the sea from the UK to France on the euro tunnel. Also know as the channel tunnel or the channel, is a remarkable engineering feat that connects the United Kingdom and France beneath the English Channel and is the tunnel with the longest undersea section in the world.

The construction of the tunnel started in 1988. It involved boring three tunnels running parallel to each other; the two outer tunnels are used for trains and the smaller central service tunnel is used for ventilation and access. Tunnel boring machines from both the English and French coasts were used and the tunnels meet approximately halfway beneath the English Channel. The Channel Tunnel was completed and officially opened on May 6, 1994 with a ceremony being held at the midpoint of the tunnel.

About 23.5 miles (37.9 kilometers) of the tunnel run beneath the English Channel. The Channel Tunnel primarily serves as a rail link, allowing highspeed trains to transport passengers and freight and is one of the world's most significant engineering achievements, facilitating seamless and rapid transportation between the UK and mainland Europe.
