Delray Tower is Detroit, Michigan’s busiest railroad hot spot. This site is located at Delray Junction on the south side of Detroit and along Interstate 75 just north of the River Rouge. Shot in the 1990’s, this manned interlocking tower was one of the last in the country, and funneled 60 to 90 trains per day in and out of Detroit. Delray Tower consists of a grade level crossing of the doubletrack Norfolk Southern (exWabash) and CSX (exChesapeake and Ohio) that crossed and joined the doubletrack Conrail (exNew York Central) mainline. Seven railroads are featured in this program including: Conrail, Norfolk Southern, CSX, Grand Trunk, Canadian Pacific, Canadian National and Amtrak. The train action includes mainline freights, locals, transfers and light power moves. The 1990’s diesel power consists of standard cab GE, ALCO & EMDs along with early widecabs.
