Zero days to expiration options, more commonly known as 0DTE options, are options contracts that expire within a day. 0DTE options have recently gained mainstream media attention and popularity with both the retail crowd and institutional traders.

Within some circles, 0DTE options are referred to as "lottos" because of their extremely highrisk/highreward profile. And while some may indeed use these options for purely speculative plays, there are practical and worthwhile uses as well.
