Many trademark applicants and registrants who try to "go on their own" get confused about Statements of Use and Declarations of Continued Use (filed five years after a trademark registers).

I think the confusion is caused, in part, because if you do an internet / Google search for a statement of use, it often pulls results related to a declaration of use into the results you'll see, and viceversa.

Here's some clarity:
(1) a Statement of Use applies to an "intent to use" trademark application it is what you file to move an allowed "intent to use" (placeholder) trademark application forward to a "registered" application.

(2) a Declaration of Continued Use is one of the documents you'll file when it's time to renew the actual Trademark Registration (at years 5, 10, and then every ten years thereafter).
