Testing out a Flail mower on our field that is covered in ant and mole hills. I wasn't sure if it would be worthwhile, but lets see.
Flail mowers are different from toppers or bladed mowers. They work by flailing the ground using hammers rotating on a revolving drum. They literally hammer the ground and chop everything in their way.
I was pleasantly surprised at the job that it did, although they are a lot slower than a topper. However, the ground afterwards is noticably flatter and the grass is mulched afterwards.
My overall verdict is a thumbs up, but I probably will only use this type of mower once a year or even once every two years due to the time and diesel taken.
