🇫🇷 Thomson TO7/70: Quick Look [TCE

Follow
The Clueless Engineer

My third Thomson computer (ordinateur français) just arrived ... the rabbit hole continues.

This 1st generation fellow joins its MO5 (1st gen.) and MO6 (2nd gen.) cousins. All the machines use a 6809 (or 6890E) processor clocked at 1MHz, but have varying amounts of RAM. It also appears that there's three versions of BASIC available: "Microsoft BASIC 1.0", then "BASIC 128" and finally "BASIC 512".

This machine comes with 64KByes, upgradeable to 128KBytes. Its BASIC comes on a cartridge (MEMO 7) and is not builtin (unlike the MO5 & MO6). It also comes with a light pen (crayon optique) that is builtin. As a bonus, it also came with a network adaptor attached (boitier de communication Nanoreseau).

I believe MO stands for "micro ordinateur" (or "Micro Computer") and TO stands for "télé ordinateur" (or "TV Computer"?).

Curiously the MO and TO range of computers are not software compatible, however their peripherals are compatible.

An overview of the different Thomson computers can be found on Wikipedia:
