Reverend John Girardeau, a former Confederate veteran, contributed a lot to the veterans organizations after the war. Amongst his writings and lectures is A Heritage of Resisting Tyranny which is one speech given at the reinterment ceremony at Magnolida Cemetery in Charleston, South Carolina on Confederate Memorial Day May 10, 1871.
