Kristopher Carter was also the composer of the "Batman Beyond" television series Due to budget restraints he was rarely able to incorporate orchestral pieces into his technorock sound created for the new Batman.

For "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" Carter was finally able to add orchestral pieces and experiment more with his main theme originally heard in the opening credits of the show. Here, the theme is lengthened, slowed and varied into a more epic piece of music to create the sense that this new, and younger, Batman is maturing.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd lent a hand on the extravagant, bluesinspired guitar pieces of Batman's theme. Much of Kristopher Carter's theme was based on his work with the series' theme In the series he received help from Shirley Walker; the composer of "Batman: The Animated Series" and protege of Danny Elfman.
