The Wurlitzer Excelsior Bb Trombone

Follow
Vagrant Trombone

The Wurlitzer Trombone Excelsior model appears in the Wurlitzer instrument catalog from 1880 to 1896. The Trombone is a .465 bore silver plated Trombone with “handsome” engraving and a water key.

The Trombone has some damage inside of the lower slide tube, which actually obstruct over half of it because of a set screw and JB weld used in a repair.

Wurlitzer is famous for pipe organs, theater organs and jukeboxes. They were also a large importer of “stencil” instruments manufactured in Europe and then labeled Wurlitzer Cincinnati USA. Many of these instruments were supplied by contract to the US armed services bands.

This old horn is a great survivor from the past. It represents everything that the technology that came with the 19th century had to offer. I can really see the technological leap that took place after World War I.

I’m grateful to Ramona for giving me this instrument to add to my collection.
