The Macao Special Administrative Region (English: Macao, Portuguese: Macau), referred to as "Macao", the full name of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is located on the west side of the Pearl River Estuary in southern China. It is the junction of mainland China and the South China Sea. It is adjacent to Guangdong Province. It is 60 kilometers away from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and 145 kilometers away from Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. The Macau Special Administrative Region is composed of the Macau Peninsula, Taipa, Coloane Island, and Cotai City (Cotai Reclamation Area), with a land area of 32.9 square kilometers. As of the end of 2020, the total population was 683,200.
