Filmed for more than a year in the Merthyr Tydfil area of Wales Once an industrial powerhouse in the mining industry, the town has faced the complete loss of the industry and with it went the jobs and a way of life. Following from the previous seasons based in Grimsby and Scunthorpe Skint portrays intimate stories of how people live with the devasting effects of longterm unemployment.

Money's tight for Hayley, who has seven children. She hasn't left the house in over 15 years due to her condition, Agoraphobia. Ash, who's 23, has never had a steady job, and his partying causes conflict with his mum. Steve left school at 13 and can't read or write but is continuously trying to make ends meet by working for his neighbours, friends and family.
