The Vet Hugged The Cat! A Minute Later, Something Unexpected Happened

We've all heard stories of animal shelters operating in numbers beyond the capacity they can handle. Often, the animals that are adopted first are the youngest and cutest. When people are looking to adopt a cat or dog, they are not looking for an elderly pet that needs a lot of attention, they are looking for an adorable puppy or kitten that can grow with the family and bring them joy for many years to come. People don't want to know about agerelated illnesses, vet bills, and many of the problems that older animals bring.

Unfortunately, older animals are often the ones who need a home the most. When an older animal is taken to a shelter, it is usually because it has been abandoned. However, the reason for abandonment is not always because of cruelty. It is true that occasionally animals have been abandoned due to their age and high vet bills. However, sometimes owners get too old to care for them or they die, leaving the animal without a home.

Sometimes these abandoned animals are taken to a shelter, but sometimes they are left to roam the streets alone. This is one of those stories. No one is quite sure why an elderly tabby cat roamed the streets of New Jersey alone. He didn't seem to be hurt or afraid of humans. But they knew he would likely need extra help finding a home when he was taken to the Voorhees animal shelter. The Voorhees Animal Shelter is one of the largest in New Jersey and they are known for helping animals that often find themselves in impossible situations.

They are also known to help older animals, which is why rescuers chose them when they encountered this older tabby cat. The cat was immediately announced on the institution's website. Officials said he deserved a human and a comfortable home to spend his final years in. The team knew that he was unlikely to do well in a home with other cats or young children, which was a difficult task as most families who came in looking for a cat had this profile.

Shelter staff immediately fell in love with the adorable cat. They said he was too cute and decided to call him Barnaby. The name means more mature or older. They loved his laidback attitude and were hopeful they could find him a loving family. During the time Barnaby was there, many families showed up. Visitors looked at the old cat and even said he was adorable and friendly, but the families were looking for a newer pet. They always had a reason why they couldn't take Barnaby home.

Sometimes it was because they had small children and lived in a very noisy house, sometimes it was because they didn't know how to take care of an elderly cat or sometimes it was due to the small children. The days began to pass and Barnaby seemed to be out of luck. He didn't have much time to wait, so the team began to worry. They doubled down on the ads, but deep down they were worried that he might never find his forever home.
