What’s better than a doodle? They are hypoallergenic, friendly dogs that are perfect for a family setting, and they are rapidly becoming the most popular dog breed out there! The answer to that question is… Double doodle! You heard that right, double doodles are the newest craze right now, and we’ll tell you why!

A Quick Overview

Double Doodles are really just a mix between two doodles, and so if an F1 Goldendoodle and an F1 Labradoodle breed together, the result would be a double doodle with 25% golden genes, 25% labrador genes, and 50% poodle genes. This is good news for doodle fans because it means they will still keep their doodle tendencies, like being mildmannered, as well as their hypoallergenic and nonshedding nature. A real winwin!

Common Double Doodle Mixes

By a mile, the most common type of double doodle is the Labradoodle and Goldendoodle mix, which is more commonly called the golden labradoodle. It makes sense that this mix is so popular since the Goldendoodle and Labradoodle are both renowned for their beautiful looks and nonaggressive temperament.

Double labradoodle, which is any labradoodle mixed with a doodle. Common variations besides the golden labradoodle are the labradoodle Bernedoodle mix, the labradoodle Aussie doodle mix, as well as the labradoodle Maltipoo mix, and a bunch more.

The Aussiedoodle Goldendoodle mix solves one of the most common complaints about the Amazing Australian Shepherd, being that it sheds a TON! Mixing the Australian Shepherd then with two different types of doodles drastically decreases the chances that the dog will shed since only about 25% of that gene remains.

The minidouble doodle, a super indemand breed that is really any double doodle under 30 pounds. Usually, they stand at about 16 to 18 inches, which is because of the poodle’s long legs. These mini double doodles are so popular because they look like tiny teddy bears!

Medium double doodle, which is generally considered anything between 20 and 45 pounds. These dogs have tons of energy and are great for people that want an excited and playful double doodle!

Standard double doodle, the largest size option for the breed, at anything more than 45 pounds. This dog will be big and long, so you are going to need either a large yard or to live an active lifestyle to keep up with these guys, or else they will start to cause chaos in the home.

Double Doodle Colors

The golden double doodle is usually a result of some golden retriever lineage, but it can show up with labradors as well and is so popular in large part because of how it transforms your dog into a living teddy bear. This, paired with the usual black nose and eyes, is really the gold standard, pun not intended, for the double doodle, and as a result by far the most popular color.

The chocolate double doodle, a unique darker coat color that comes from a recessive gene, meaning it is fairly difficult to produce and as a result, rarer too. In order to create a chocolate double doodle, you must breed with a darker color poodle and hope the trait gets through in a few of the litter.

The cream double doodle is far more common and is probably even the easiest color to breed when it comes to creating these dogs. Their ease to create doesn’t make them any less beautiful, though, and the very light color is a favorite of many.
