So this is a totally different subject than we're used to talking about. Love, relationships, marriage and money are the discussion of today's video. To be honest, we learned a lot of things before we got married from listening to Dave Ramsey. How to talk about debt, how to get on the same page with our money. But we still struggled a lot and had to do a lot of learning by trial and error.

There were some big things we had to agree on, and once we agreed on those our marriage improved. Now we're on the same page with our money. Both short term and long term.

We think the reasons that the topics of money and personal spending can stir up so much debate are:

1) Spending is a reflection of what you value. What you spend your money on, you value. Since there are so many people with so many different backgrounds, values, etc. in our society, OF COURSE there are going to be differences in opinion about how to best spend the money we have.

2) Money is extremely important. Regardless of whether or not money can buy happiness, what it does 100% buy is peace of mind and financial security. It pays for the things that keep you alive. Food, shelter, water, clothing, etc. On top of that, it also gives you freedom and autonomy. The more money you have, the more choices you have, the more things you can say “no” to. The more things you can do on your own terms.

Marriage can be incredibly difficult in some aspects, but even more rewarding. The biggest successes we’ve had, have been due to being married and working together. Also, the biggest failures we’ve experienced have resulted from some sort of breakdown in communication or how we act toward one another.
