New Haas F1 team principal Ayao Komatsu has a huge task on his hands.
Not only must he fill the shoes of largerthanlife predecessor Guenther Steiner, but he must also haul Haas off the bottom of the constructors’ championship – and fast.
Komatsu only found out he was taking over as team boss when owner Gene Haas gave him the good news at the end of last year. He says his priority is to give his team “the environment and framework so they can show their best”.
He’s revealed the first details of his masterplan for achieving that. And first on the agenda is to stress that he is absolutely not trying to be Guenther Steiner.
