The Lake District: Eagle Crag and Sergeant Crag 10km circular walk. 2 Wainwrights with great views.

This walk is found in the heart of The Lake District, the Central Fells. Much quieter than other areas of Cumbria, this is a hidden gem which Wainwright loved.
Our walk starts in the quaint village of Stonethwaite with a relatively flat 1km start along the valley floor and Stonethwaite Beck. Eagle Crag is notorious for its dominance over the valley and imposing cliff face which makes it a 'must do' for hikers. Once we reach it's base there is a quick ascent which makes up the majority of the altitude for this hike. There are great views to the right across the valley and even more to see from the summit.
Sergeant's Crag is 0.6km away and is easily reached along a relatively flat and broad fell top. This is an easy walk giving plenty of time for recovery. Sergeant's Crag offers excellent views across the nearby mountain ranges and is not to be missed on a clear day.
From Sergeant's Crag there is a traverse across the head of the valley to reach a stone slab cycle path which always reminds me of the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz. This takes us to Lining Crag with the Skiddaw range in front of us.
As we decent back to the valley the rest of the work provides a gentle walk back to Stonethwaite.
I hope you enjoy it!
