Pinisi, originating in 1906, were once the largest commercial sailing fleet in the Indian Ocean. Now predominantly motorized, their traditional design remains, serving cargo and tourism purposes. However, obtaining quality timber has become difficult, leading to compromised hull structures or relocation of construction sites to resourcerich areas like South and East Kalimantan.
