By the late 1980s it was no longer surprising to see the Beatles suing each other. Or that they kept attacking each other. By 1988, the Beatles were celebrating 25 years since their first official release and that automatically made them eligible to be part of the rock and roll hall of fame. George, Paul, Ringo and Yoko confirmed their attendance at the ceremony, but after a new scandal involving a move by Paul to receive an additional percentage of royalties for Beatles songs, the relationship fractured again. McCartney canceled his appearance on the grounds that it would feel hypocritical to be smiling when things weren't quite right, and only George and Ringo took the stage to receive an award celebrating a band that was apparently still broken.
