RAF Bomber Command faced some very real dangers in the skies over Europe between 1939 and 1945, but also, perhaps, some 'less' real dangers.

I was intrigued by the stories of fake exploding aircraft being orchestrated by German defenders to scare and deter British crews. Was there any truth in it? Why did so many British crews believe it was happening? What do historians think now?
