In the first episode of the Terra X series “The Big Questions,” Harald Lesch sets out to answer what is arguably the biggest question of all time: What can science tell us about God – and what can’t it?
The universe seems tailormade for us humans: galaxies, stars, planets – including our Earth – could never have come into existence if the laws of nature were even the slightest bit different. Is this evidence of a divine plan? Is it conceivable that the complex forms of life on Earth operate without any external direction? Or are we barking up the wrong tree when we try to prove God’s existence through his creations?

Can there actually be such thing as definitive proof of God’s existence? Since ancient times, theologists, philosophers and natural scientists have been searching for persuasive evidence. Austrian mathematician Kurt Gödel came up with what is likely the most complex piece of evidence for God’s existence, written in the language of logic. With the help of a computer, it was proven that Gödel’s evidence is technically coherent. But does it prove that God exists?
Are science and religion a contradiction by nature – or can they be reconciled? Harald Lesch takes us on a journey from the depths of outer space down to the microcosm of miniscule organisms. He shows us amazing encounters and incredible insights into human consciousness, and he tells us stories of faith – all the way from the earliest Stone Age relics to the latest attempts to prove God’s existence with Artificial Intelligence. An adventurous search for the Creator himself.
