The Ballycahill School Barn Owl nest box project - a lasting legacy

Follow
BirdWatchIreland

The children of Ballycahill National School in Tipperary initiated a project to provide nest boxes for Barn Owls in the local area 30 years ago. This project generated significant interest in Barn Owls among the children and landowners which has lasted to this day. Many of these nest boxes, which were installed three decades ago are still in place and are currently being used by Barn Owls.

This video details the schools project and the impact it has had all these years later, as well as the current conservation efforts to help Barn Owls in Tipperary on behalf of many individuals and groups including from the Tipperary Branch of BirdWatch Ireland, Cabragh Wetlands, BirdWatch Ireland and with the support of the Heritage Office of Tipperary County Council.

This video is produced by John Lusby, BirdWatch Ireland and Crow Crag in partnership with the Heritage Office of Tipperary County Council and supported by the National Biodiversity Action Plan Fund through the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Thanks to Crossing the Line for providing Barn Owl footage for use in this video.
