Brett Cenkus

Merger and acquisition (M&A) events can be grouped into four broad categories that relate to the relationship between the acquirer and the seller (target). Those categories are:

horizontal M&A deals (buyer and seller are in the same business with different customers)
vertical M&A deals (buyer and seller are at different levels of the supply chain, e.g., a transaction between a manufacturer and a retailer)
concentric (buyer and seller have the same customers but different products or services)
conglomerate (buyer and seller operate in entirely unrelated industries)

In this video, Brett gives realworld examples of mergers and acquisitions that fit into each category. This video will help expand your basic M&A knowledge and provide a basic framework to begin analyzing deals.
