Some names are ubiquitous with offroad trucks and equipment: Raptor, Power Wagon, Rebel and, over at Chevrolet, it’s all about the ZR2. For the 2024 model year, Chevrolet now offers a ZR2 offroad trim on three of its pickup trucks: the midsize Colorado, the fullsize Silverado 1500 and the heavyduty Silverado 2500. But wait, there’s more: If the ZR2 isn’t quite brawny enough for you, there’s a Bison edition sitting above even that, which brings extra bits and pieces from offroad overlanding equipment company AEV to the party. It’s all meant to provide customers with a choice. Which supercapable offroad Chevrolet pickup best meets your needs — or will at least fit in your driveway?

All ZR2s share some common offroad bits, some common interior appointments, and all come with some remarkable offroad capability — but is the idea of “one sausage, three sizes” that German automakers used to do applicable now to offroad trucks? Will one ‘Murrican hot dog in three sizes work? Or are these three Chevy showroom brothers sufficiently different from each other to warrant being considered separately?
