Thank you #TinyVillage, from the bottom of our hearts, for an unforgettable 2023!

In 2023, a remarkable family of feral cats captured our hearts. More than 200 cats were living at our Bramble colony, about to get pregnant with hundreds more kittens.

We set a frantic pace of trapping, spaying and neutering, and braced ourselves for a kitten season we knew we couldn't completely prevent.

Every mama cat's struggles reminded us why we were pushing so hard to spay and neuter, as we faced fading kittens, catastrophic births on the farm, neonatal isoerythrolysis, lifethreatening resistant infections, underdeveloped bladders, ringworm, fatal congenital defects, miscarried kittens, difficult births, and so much tragedy we couldn't prevent.

When it felt like one more loss might just break us, a tiny miracle restored our hope. Dr. Ko of Telus Health MyPet moved mountains to help us save a tiny, dying kitten named Glorietta.

Glorietta's recovery was stunning, and it changed everything for us. Armed with the protocols, medication and support we needed, we were able to save kitten after kitten who would have otherwise died.

As the months flew by, the Bramble colony slowly began to stabilize as more and more spays, neuters, vaccines and recoveries happened. We built our first robotrap, and then started building our own specialized remotetrigger traps to accomplish our biggest trapping challenges.

In 2023, at our Bramble colony alone:

We prevented 1080 kittens from being conceived
Fed 10,680 pounds of food
Spayed and neutered 152 cats
Adopted 47 into wonderful homes

We also wanted these amazing cats to make a difference globally, so...

We partnered with SFU to begin stable isotope research to determine if feeding feral cats reduces predation on wildlife.

We told so many remarkable stories of resilience and transformation.

We shared our new protocols and case studies with other rescuers, so they could save more of their kittens too.

Meanwhile, beyond the Brambles, 2023 was a roller coaster. We were plunged into terrifying emergencies, unexpected twists, a lot more TrapNeuterReturn (TNR), placentas in laps and one very memorable skunk.

We did whatever we could to provide comfort, support and second chances, in a year where many around us found themselves in gutwrenching circumstances.

We continued to livestream the uncensored realities of cat overpopulation, with unexpected moments of joy, endless kitten watches, harrowing live births, waiting for placentas, coparenting, 2am feedings, surgeries, creative administration of meds, anxiety, exhaustion, leg cramps, adrenaline, unpredictable intakes, field exams, cam takedowns, triumphant returns and so much more. And of course, you were by our sides through the inevitable heartbreaks that haunt us when we fight as hard as we can, and it's just not enough.

In 2023, we were reminded on a daily basis that we are surrounded by a #TinyVillage whose compassion, generosity and love is powerful enough to make miracles happen.

Thanks to you, miracles did happen, and those miracles are inspiring compassion and change on a global scale.

Words will never be able to adequately express our love and gratitude to each of you, for having such a huge impact on us personally, and on the lives we were able to save throughout another extremely challenging year. ❤
