Temporal Adverbs in American Sign Language (ASL University)(Lifeprint.com) (Dr. Bill)

Temporal adverbs are adverbs that provide information about when an action takes place. They describe the time of an action or the frequency of its occurrence. Temporal adverbs help give context to the timing, duration, or sequence of events. Temporal adverbs help to provide a clear picture of when events happen in relation to one another.

Here are some examples of temporal adverbs:

1. Frequency:
ALWAYS
OFTEN
frequently (an inflected / emphasized version of OFTEN)
SOMETIMES
rarely (inflected version of SOMETIMES)
NEVER
usually (MOST TIME) (TENDto) (HABIT) (THEIRTHEIR / "their way of doing things")

2. Point in time:
NOW
today (NOW DAY) (NOW+NOW+context)
TOMORROW
YESTERDAY
SOON (multiple versions)
LATER (palm version), (initialized FUTURE)
immediately (an inflected / emphasized version of NOW)
presently

3. Duration:
STILL
already (FINISH) (PAST)
notYET (when used in negative statements or questions like "YOU notYET FINISH YOU?")
anymore (FROMNOWON)
UPTONOW

4. Sequence:
FIRST (twohanded version) (onehanded version)
THEN
NEXT
LAST, final
finally (SUCCESS or PAH! when used to mean you "finally" did something)
afterwards FINISH, LATER, FROMTHENON, or show via sequencing of events

5. Specific times:
DAILY
WEEKLY
MONTHLY, every month
YEARLY, annually
hourly
