Teen beekeeper Keith Griffith III began beekeeping to cope with stress when both of his parents were incarcerated. When Keith was 11, his uncle taught him how to care for a bee colony and harvest honey. Keith is reunited with his parents and now runs a honey business, Beeing2gether, and is a mental health and environmental advocate in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Guided by filmmaker Evan Mascagni, Keith helped make this film, showing what bees have taught him about cooperation, community, and emotional wellbeing, and why pollinators are important for food production and the environment.

This is an episode of Films BYkids, which pairs teenagers from diverse cultures with accomplished filmmakers to create short personal documentaries that encourage understanding about universal issues and help foster empathy and global citizenry. Ashley Judd is the series narrator, introducing each 30minute film. The series is a collaboration between The WNET Group and the nonprofit, BYkids.
