The TEE network was set up in 1957. All trains were 1stclassonly and required a special supplement payment. In 1974 the TEE network comprised 45 trains, connecting 130 cities. By 1984 most services were abandoned and replaced by the new international EuroCity network which provides 1st and 2nd class service.
