The Teddy Bear is a toy dog. It is not a breed per se but a collection of dogs that fit a certain bill of description. Teddy Bear dogs are known for their endearing faces and their wide enormous eyes. They have a soft teddy bear coat. Their coats have a mix of colors that sit well with the eyes. They are the inspiration for the famous teddy bear stuffed animals. They are known as Zuchon or Tzu Frise. They are modern dogs with their journey beginning only at the turn of the 21st century. Breed History

Teddy Bear dogs are highend, designer dogs that are quite popular in America. Americans got to breed designer dogs in the 90s. The Zuchon is a result of breeders crossing an oriental Shih Tzu and a Mediterranean Bichon Frise. Teddy Bears are increasing in popularity even though they are a relatively new breed. Their unique look and coat colors have made them somewhat luxurious toys famous among the rich.

The Teddy Bear is not regarded as an official breed but a crossbred. There are, however, certain organizations that recognize this breed. These organizations include the American Canine Hybrid Club and the Designer Dogs Kennel Club.

Temperament

Of all toy dogs, the Teddy Bear is one of the most loyal breeds. They have great personalities, are lively and are noted for their good manners. They are good as family pets but they can be stubborn. However, if welltrained, they are excellent to be around.

Teddy Bears are wellmannered, they are known to be happy, very social and gentle. You’ll rarely see them go on barking rampages. Teddy Bears only bark when they need to alter their family of an approaching stranger. They are not only kept for their aesthetic values but as watchdogs too. They make excellent watchdogs. Zuchons are good with other dogs, they play well with other dogs and you would rarely see them in a fight with another canine if socialized at an early age.

Exercise

Teddy Bear dogs can be taken on walks that do not cover long distances daily. You can play fetch with this breed as they love to play, albeit, not too long. You can Teddy Bears swimming but do not keep them too long in the water and don’t force them in if they do not want to go.

Environment

Teddy Bear dogs are not outdoor prone so you needn’t worry about raising fences to keep them in. They hate being left alone so you might want to consider not adopting them if you are constantly busy with work. They are not highenergy canines so they are apartment fit.

Grooming

They have a beautiful coat that requires some grooming efforts to make them look good. You should expect to brush your Teddy bear dog about three times a week. Do this to avoid loose hair from falling over the house.

Ensure you bathe them at least once every month. If your Teddy Bear is often outdoors playing in the dirt, then you should increase the number of times you bathe them. Brush your Teddy Bear’s teeth daily to prevent the buildup of harmful bacteria and to prevent the buildup of tartar. Nails are to be trimmed once or twice a month too.
