Synaptic transmission I The Synapse I How Neurons Communicate

Follow
Psych Explained

How do nerve cells talk to each other? In this video, Dr. Kushner covers synaptic transmission. Synaptic transmission is the process by which neurons communicate with each other in the nervous system. It occurs across synapses ("synaptic cleft"), which are small gaps between neurons.

Corrections 7:08 I incorrectly use the word "dock" to describe calcium's effect on vesicles. Docking is a very specific term used to describe the process by which vesicles are brought close to the presynaptic membrane in preparation for the release of neurotransmitters.
