Philippine Air Force Strengthens Air Defense with New J/TPSP14ME Radar.
The Philippine Air Force (PAF) will enhance its air defense capabilities with the official induction of the J/TPSP14ME mobile air surveillance/air defense radar system on 29 April 2024.
The radar is a key part of the PAF's Phase 2 Air Surveillance Radar Acquisition Project undertaken by Mitsubishi Electric Corp (MELCO) of Japan.
The project includes the delivery of 3 J/FPS3ME fixed air surveillance/air defense radar systems and 1 J/TPSP14ME mobile air surveillance/air defense radar system.
The J/TPSP14ME offers greater flexibility and mobility to the PAF due to its ability to be transported and operated in various locations, strengthening air defense throughout the Philippine territory.
The acceptance of the J/TPSP14ME marks the second radar delivery under the contract, after MELCO completed and handed over one of the J/FPS3ME fixed radars last year.
Although the exact location of the J/TPSP14ME has not yet been announced, the radar is expected to be placed at one of three strategic locations: Santa Ana, Cagayan; Paranal Air Station in Panganiban, Camarines Norte; or Elum Air Station at Hill 900B in Zamboanga City.
