Developed and published by Sega in 1989

Folks are probably familiar with the Genesis version of Sega's Formula 1 racer, but it started life in the arcades. It leverages Sega's X Board hardware and super scaler technology to create a remarkably realistic firstperson racing game; it's bonkers to think this was done entirely with sprites...in1989!

I must confess, I really struggled with this one. The controls are REALLY sensitive, no doubt intended to mimic the twitchreactions needed to pilot a real F1 car, and I suspect you really need the full arcade set up and wheel to get the most out of it.

Even so, the blistering pace and simulated physics result in something that, surprisingly, doesn't feel a million miles from the racers of today.
