Badlands Wash is off Vallecito Wash in Anza Borrego Desert State Park. This is one of the lesser traveled washes since it does not lead to a desired destination. This wash is near Canebrake, named for the bamboolike reed that grows around a nearby well.
Canebreake is about 20 homes on a 640acre parcel are occupied yearround, with more people visiting on the weekends. Canebrake was once a federal homestead parcel, reserved for sailors and soldiers returning from World War II. Until the early 1980s, it survived without telephones or mail delivery.
