Anna and Zach of StartAbroad take a day trip from Nuevo Arenal to La Fortuna, Costa Rica.

La Fortuna is famous as one of the premier adventure tourism destinations in the world. It is home to world renown ziplining, animal habitats, whitewater rafting, kayaking, standup paddleboarding, hiking, river tubing, and much more. Only 1.5 hours drive from Liberia airport, La Fortuna also sits very close to Lake Arenal, the largest lake in Costa Rica.

Not only is La Fortuna a must for tourists in Costa Rica, it has become an expat favorite as a homebase. There are great restaurants, a lovely central park, and plenty of free recreational activities to take advantage of.

Check it all out as Anna and Zach take their two street pups, Frijolita and Scrappy Do, out on the town. They love their rural home of Nuevo Arenal, but every once and awhile they need to get out on the town. But before La Fortuna, they stop at one of their favorite forest walks and swimming spots so the pups can stretch their legs. Then it's on to the free public hot springs, a delicious sushi lunch, the incredible swimming hole, and a walk around downtown La Fortuna.
