The Klingon D 7 class cruiser, initially crafted and employed by the Klingon Imperial Fleet in the 23rd century, found its way into the hands of the Romuland military during the latter part of the 2260s.

It possessed a distinctly predatory appearance, characterized by its spreadwing primary hull, elongated neck, and headlike command pod.

In the late 2260s, when adopted by the Romuland military, some variants displayed a large birdofprey design painted on the hull, akin to the one found on the BirdofPrey vessel, while others sported red and yellow featherlike detailing on the upper wing and nacelle pylon.

The first Klingon ship design featured in The Original Series was the D7class battlecruiser, carefully crafted by Matt Jefferies to resemble the shape of a menacing manta ray, ensuring an instantly recognizable and formidable appearance for viewers.
