Poodle Overview:

The Poodle is one of the ancient breeds that were used for hunting waterfowl.
While commonly associated with France, the Poodle actually is of German origin.
Poodle served a wide variety of purposes, including duck hunting, guiding, and later circus performing.
The word Poodle comes from the German “pudel” meaning puddle or splash.
Poodle descends from the old French Barbet breed or from Germany as a type of water dog.
Some also believe that one of the Poodle’s ancestors is the Asian herding dog.
The standard Poodle was recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club in 1887.
